“I think that what I have learned is that I can control my anger instead of the other way around.”
  - Workshop participant

Anger directly affects us all

The goal of transforming anger is to harness the energy of anger and change it into more positive and compassionate emotions. This is different than the common teachings of anger management. The process we present will help you discover the ability to replace the distress of anger with the comfort of patience, tolerance and compassion.

Transforming Anger

The transformation of anger into positive emotions has a better chance of becoming a life-long practice. By only managing anger, the sources of anger will continue and you are always in the position of "restraining the beast." When anger is transformed, you learn that you can chose not to be angry or if you are you can transform that anger into compassion.

We can lead a workshop on how to Transform Anger for your group. This workshop is based on teachings from psychology, philosophy, and religion, as well as from sages thoughout the ages from Longfellow to the Dalai Lama. It uses the participants' own experiences with anger as the working medium along with the teachings. In addition, it offers the following compelling reasons to give up anger:
  • Anger is a destructive emotion.
  • The first person damaged by your anger is you.
  • Actions taken as a result of anger are likely to be irrational and therefore harmful or not effective.
  • You can, if you choose, reduce the amount of anger in your life.
  • As you reduce the amount of anger, your quality of life improves.
The participants are not asked to accept these as true, but rather to experiment with them. Hopefully, the result will be that they begin to doubt the value of their anger. This workshop is not intended to be psychotherapy or an encounter group, except to the extent that Fritz Perls once said, "Awareness is therapy per se."
